Raymond Patrick Murphy

REXTON, NB – It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Raymond Patrick Murphy. Raymond passed away at the Dr.-Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital on August 9th, 2017 at the age of 69. He was born in Rexton and was the son of the late Dan and Margaret (Markey) Murphy. Raymond was a man of many talents, be it teaching or municipal politics, he worked tirelessly for the benefit of others. He was an avid card player and an active member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in South Branch, N.B. Raymond was the very definition of what a community volunteer should be. His contributions will be missed by many.

Since 2003, Raymond was employed as Executive Director of the Union of Municipalities of New Brunswick (UMNB). He greatly enjoyed his work at UMNB and the connections he made over the years. Raymond was also passionate about education. He worked hard for over 30 years to ensure the success of his students, all the while mentoring countless teachers along the way. Even after retiring, he stayed involved in the education system serving as a representative of the Kent region for the Anglophone North School District.

Raymond will be greatly missed by his wife of 33 years, Claire (Robichaud); daughter, Tobi Haywood (Chris) of Squamish, B.C.; son Daniel (Melissa) of Fredericton; sister, Sharon Ward (Gordon); sister-in-law, Cathy Murphy of Hampton; as well as by his nieces and nephews, Christa, Tim and Katie.

Raymond is also survived by two aunts, Teresa (Murphy) Savoie of Moncton and Cecilia (Markey) Richard of Sackville.

Besides his parents, Raymond is predeceased by his brother Mike.
