Jean-Baptiste Babin
1914-2017
SAINT-LOUIS-DE-KENT, NB – Jean-Baptiste Babin, 103 years and five months, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, at the Villa Maria, Saint-Louis on Wednesday, August 16th, 2017. Born in Pont-du-Milieu, he was the son of the late François and Marguerite (Daigle) Babin.
Jean-Baptiste worked many years on the family farm and was also a lumberjack in the camps in several areas of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. He was part of the group "Grouille ou Rouille" for many years and was a member of the "Club des Pionniers du Conseil Acadien de la Coopération Ltée.", founded in 1949.
Jean-Baptiste will be sadly missed by his four daughters, Maria Caissie-LeBlanc (Léonce) of St-Philippe, Cécile Brideau (Ronald), Rose-Ella Babineau (Yvon) and Fernande Babin, all of St-Louis; three sons, Martin (late Alma), Léon (Stella) and François, all of St-Louis; 20 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; two sons-in-law, Louis Morais of Montreal, QC and Raymond Gionet of Quebec City, QC; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Jean-Baptiste is predeceased by his wife, Rita (née Mazerolle); two daughters, Gilberte Morais and Bernadette Gionet; four sisters Anna, Ida, Adeline and Rita; five brothers, Fidèle, Alcide, Amédée, Edgar and Edmond; as well as two infant siblings, Lina and Léon.
Visitation will be held at Thompson’s Memorial Home, Saint-Louis-de-Kent, on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00pm and 7:00 to 9:00pm and Monday from 2:00pm until the departure for the funeral. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, August 21st, 2017 at 4:00pm, Saint-Louis-des-Français Roman Catholic Church, Saint-Louis-de-Kent.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Villa Maria (Activities), Saint-Louis-des-Français Cemetery or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at the Villa Maria and to Dr. André Boucher for all the excellent care that they gave over many years to Jean-Baptiste, as well as a thank you to Thompson’s Funeral Home.
