Eric "Peter" Ronald Morton

1941-2018

Eric "Peter" Ronald Morton

Eric "Peter" Ronald Morton, 76, of Pine Ridge, NB, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at the Stella Maris Hospital, Sainte-Anne-de-Kent.

Peter was born in Ford Bank, NB to the late Ronald and Harriet (Girvan) Morton on May 24, 1941. He married Grace Warman on July 20th, 1962 in Bass River, NB.

Peter was exceptional as the family’s storyteller. He had a crystal clear memory for all things quaint, quirky and amusing about the good-old-days. In his younger years he worked as a woodcutter and a builder, and could fix just about anything. He was well-known in the antiquing circuits, and over the years bought, sold or traded all manner of things from accordions and anvils, to horses and cars.

Peter shared helpful advice and opinions in a gentle and humorous way.  He would have been surprised to know that he was almost always right, and his family hung on to his every word.

Peter loved New Brunswick and Kent County, and was happiest at home after a jaunt in the vehicle he made himself (the "Jitney"), telling stories to his grandchildren while Grace poured the tea, cut the fruitcake, and put the May flowers he just picked into some water.

Peter is survived by his wife of 55 years, Grace (Warman) Morton; two daughters: Diane Wilson (Grant) of West Branch and Barbara Morton (Lars Melen) of Calgary; one son: Darrell Morton (Kendra) of Halifax; six grandchildren: Joshua, Miranda, Lukas, Abigail, Annika and Kaleb; two sisters: Donna Pflieger (Henry) of Vancouver and Allie Alward (Larry) of Havelock; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and his uncle, Gordie Girvan.

He was preceded in death by his older brother, Ardene Morton.

The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Dr. Eric Martin and the wonderful, caring staff of the Sainte Anne hospital, including the Extra-Mural nurses who have helped to care for Peter over the years.

Visitation will be held at Thompson’s Funeral Home, Richibucto on Friday, March 2nd, 2018, from 7-9 pm. A private family service will be held at a later date.
