CHAPEL POINT, NB – Our
mother, Ruth Carruthers, died Saturday, October 19, 2019.
During her struggle with
dementia, she lived at the Rexton Lion’s Home, where she
received the very best of care.
Born August 24, 1925; she was the eldest daughter of Allison and Mary
Mundle of Mundleville, NB. She had four sisters;
Lois in Calgary, and was predeceased by Alice, Helen and Elaine.
Dad always called her his bride. They were
married in 1948 until he died in 2001. They had six sons, Ross
(Noreen) Nackawic, NB; David (Lesley) Port Hawkesbury, NS; Murray
(Anne) Digby, NS, Stephen (the late Mariette) Chapel Point, NB; Eric
(Karen Hicks) Chapel Point, NB and Mark (Lorraine) Rexton, NB and a
daughter, Helen Ryan (George) Chapel Point NB. They also loved their
chosen son, Ronald J Robichaud "Tut" (Eleanor) Port
Hawkesbury, NS. A mention of Brent Herridge and to many other junior
hockey players that stayed with them over their Strait Pirate hockey
days in Port Hawkesbury. Mommy loved to quilt and made baby quilts for
all 17 grandchildren; Brent, Darren, Heather and Brittany Ryan; Alison
and Robert; Ashley and Lindsay; Grant and Leanne, Dakota, Jade, Micah,
Brady and Rice; Ashley and Adam. Jessica and Jennifer also called her
Grammie. She had 13 great grandchildren.
In 1946 she graduated from Mount Alison University, worked as a
Dietitian at the Toronto General Hospital. She returned
home, married and while raising a large family, she taught Home
Economics at the high school in Port Hawkesbury, NS. She was
a member and an Elder of St David’s United Church, Port
Hastings, NS and very involved in UCW and Sunday School. After
retirement, she moved back to the Rexton area and attended St. Andrews
United Church. She had a passion for education, crosswords, reading
and enjoyed the Canadian Federation of University Women Kent Book
Club.
Her wonderful cooking and renowned
beef stew, bread and great meals welcomed everyone. The love
of hockey, travel, and boat racing, she made life long friends.
Mom was a special lady to so many. She will be in
our hearts forever. The bus with the NB flag was the site at
the races.
Her wish is there will be no
visitation, cremation and the funeral service will be held on
Thursday, October 24, 2019 at 2:00 at St. Andrew’s United
Church in Rexton, NB.
Donations can
be made towards her love for the mission fund through the United
Church or to the Rexton Lions Nursing Home so others can be cared for
like Mom was.
Arrangements are in care of Thompson's Funeral Home, Richibucto (523-4252).
