Lynda Johnson

1946-2020

REXTON, NB – Lynda Johnson 74, of Rexton passed away at home on August 8, 2020.  Born in Bedford, England, she was the second daughter of the late Frank Hermitage and Yvonne (Reidpath) Hermitage. 

Lynda was a graduate of Harrison Trimble High School, Moncton and Ontario Teachers College, Toronto. She taught school in Ontario for thirty-seven years, including Thunder Bay, Nakina, Moosonee and Fort Hope.  Always dedicated to her special needs students, she seldom missed a day of school.  She wore a different pair of earrings every day, along with co-ordinated outfit, to challenge her students and to stimulate discussion.  She loved yards sales, flea markets and collecting cookbooks.  

Lynda, a single parent, is survived by her daughter, Sherri (Ken Shannon) of Whitby, ON; two sons, Joshua of Moncton and Christopher of St. Louis.  She is also survived by her older sister, Carolyn Hermitage Harris (late Gordon W. Hebert) of Jardineville and her brother, Alan (Margaret) Hermitage of Rexton; six grandchildren, two nieces, one nephew, uncles Merrin (late Irene) Reidpath, Vernon (Mary) Reidpath, Richard (late Anne) Hermitage, aunt  Alaine (Reidpath) Bastow (Victor) and her special caregiver. 

She was predeceased by her parents; nephew, Charles Hermitage; her beloved great aunt, Elsie (Reidpath) Kosteck; uncles, Eric Reidpath, Raymond Reidpath, Walter Hermitage and by Theresa Knowles, her best friend of forty years. 

Due to COVID-19 restrictions there will be no visitation at the funeral home.  A graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2020 at 11:00 am at St. Paul’s Anglican Cemetery in Brown’s Yard. 

Arrangements are in care of Thompson’s Funeral Home in Richibucto (523-4252).
