Seth Monahan

ELSIPOGTOG, NB – It is with great sadness that the family announces the accidental passing of Seth Monahan 39, of Elsipogtog, on April 3, 2021 as a result of a tragic fishing accident off the coast of Cape Breton Island.  Born in Presque Isle, Maine he was the son of Jonathan Monahan and Pauline Caroline Young. 

Seth grew up in Woodland, Maine and attended Woodland Consolidated School and Caribou High School. He was employed at Hannaford Brothers in Portland, Maine for several years before moving to Canada where he settled down to raise a family in Elsipogtog and work as a carpenter and fisherman.  He excelled at competitive sports in school and was a talented guitar player. He was well known for his infectious smile, sense of humor, kindness, generosity, intelligence, and strong work ethic. 

Seth will be sadly missed by his wife, Christal Sanipass, their daughter, Julie, and son, SJ "Anthony". He is also survived by his parents; two sisters, Ashley Monahan, Christine Dunham; his special aunt Rosemary Monahan and her partner Sarah LeClaire; his niece Ava Finelli; and nephews, Kaleb Finelli and Clyde Robert Dunham.  He will also be greatly missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends on both sides of the border.  

Visitation will be held at the home of his mother-in-law, Jeannie Augustine, at 304 Levi Street, Elsipogtog, beginning on Tuesday at 2:00 pm until Thursday at 2:00 pm. 

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church in Elsipogtog, Saturday, April 17, 2021 at 10:30 am.  

Arrangements are in care of Thompson’s Funeral Home in Richibucto (523-4252).
