Cecil Carter

1931-2014

Cecil Carter

MONCTON, NB - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear brother, uncle, great uncle and friend to many, J. Cecil Carter, 83, of Peoples Park Tower, Moncton on November 26, 2014.

Cecil was born in Kouchibouguac, N.B. on January 12, 1931 to the late Clifford and Evelyn (Myers) Carter.  Left to mourn are his brother Clifford (his wife, Leona), his sister-in-law Ruby, his special niece Gail and several other nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces, great- nephews, great grand-nieces,  great grand-nephews and special friends at Peoples Park Tower.

He was predeceased by his brothers Arthur (killed in action in Italy during WWII), John of Saint John, Donald (‘Bun’) of Hampton, and his sisters, Viola of Chatham and Margaret of Shediac.

After graduating from the University of Moncton, Cecil taught for many years  at Mountain Road School in Moncton. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1310 Moncton. He also organized many group pilgrimages to Quebec’s Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré, Cap-de-la-Madeleine and Saint Joseph's Oratory.  He loved to travel and had been to Comox on Vancouver Island countless times to visit his close friend, Father Joe. Many other trips, some with his brother John, included Florida, Spain, Mexico, Alaska and a special journey to Italy to visit Arthur’s grave.

He was passionate about being a volunteer at the Moncton City Hospital and was recognized for his many hours there visiting the sick and working in the bake shop. He was a devout Roman Catholic and attended St. Bernard's in Moncton. He spent his summers "in Kouch’ at the old house" and attended St. James Roman Catholic Church while there.

Visitation will be at Thompson Funeral Home, Richibucto on Sunday, Nov 30th (2 PM to 4 PM, and 6 PM to 8 PM) and Monday, December 1st (9:30 AM to 10:30 AM).  A special Prayer Vigil will be held at Thompson’s on Sunday at 7:30 PM.

Funeral mass will be held on Monday, Dec 1st at 11 AM at Immaculate Conception Church, Rexton. A reception will be held in the church hall following the mass.

Interment will follow at a later date at St. James Roman Catholic Cemetery, Kouchibouguac.
