Marguerite Lillian (Murphy) Black

RIVERVIEW, NB - Marguerite Lillian (Murphy) Black, 98, formerly of South Branch, Kent Co, NB passed away peacefully at the Grass Home in Riverview, NB on December 11, 2014.  Born in Balla Philip, Kent Co., NB on July 24, 1916 to Joseph (Joey) Louis Murphy and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Anne (Swift) Murphy.   

She had been a lifelong member of St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church in South Branch and a member of the Catholic Women's League for over 60 years.  For many years she did the weekly cleaning of the church, preparation for Masses, baptisms, weddings and funerals assisting the Priest as needed.  She also organized birthday parties, bridal and baby showers, wedding receptions, etc. and fund raisers such as suppers, card parties, musical entertainment, etc.  In 1997, Marguerite was honored with the CWL "Maple Leaf Service Pin", a distinction given to members for exemplary dedication to her parish, church and diocese after many years of service.  Despite age and failing health she continued to do her best to take care of the church until she moved to the Grass Home in Riverview in March 2010.

Survived by daughter Mary Morton (Gordon) of Riverview; granddaughters, Deborah Jean Morton (Simon Anderson) of Halifax and Karen Ann Morton of Riverview; grandson, John (Jack) Gordon Morton (Shelley) of Moncton; great granddaughters, Ashley Marguerite Morton of Moncton and Kristen Janie Morton of Ottawa.  Also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families, numerous cousins and extended family members and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband John Stanley Black; sons, George Stanley, Charlie Joseph; brothers, George Patrick, Frederick Joseph (Anne), Ernest Philip (Anne); sisters, Florence Mary (David) McPherson, Catherine Eileen (John) Mitchell, Kathleen Winnifred (Basil) McIntosh, Mary Agnes (Harold) Barnes; infant siblings, Philip, Baby Mary, Daniel Frances and Mollie.

Visitation will be held at Cobb's Funeral Home, 330 White Pine Road, Riverview on Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Monday at Thompson's Funeral Home, Richibucto from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Tuesday at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, South Branch at 10:00 am until time of funeral.  A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at 11:00 am, St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, South Branch.  Interment will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers donations to St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church Cemetery Fund or the NB Heart & Stroke Fund would be appreciated by the family.
