SAINT-LOUIS-DE-KENT – At the Villa Maria, on Sunday, July 26, 2015, at the age of 94, passed away peacefully Arthur DeGrâce, husband of the late Alida (Comeau) DeGrâce, of Saint-Louis-de-Kent. Born at Saint-Olivier, he was the son of the late Onézime DeGrâce and the late Eugénie Doucet.  Arthur was a veteran of WW II.

He leaves to mourn his 10 children: Noëlla (late Gérald Maillet) of Dieppe, Yvette (Clarence Cormier), and Claude (Joanne Losier) of Moncton, Elmo (Ann) of Saint-Ignace, Claudette (Johnny Robichaud) of Dartmouth, NS, Nicole of Saint-Louis-de-Kent, Mariette (Réjean Richard) of Saint-Ignace, Lise (Jean-Guy Lirette) of Scoudouc, Joanne (Travis Richard) of Richibucto, and Jacinthe (Georges Gallant) of Saint-Louis-de-Kent; 22 grand-children, and 13 great-grand-children. He is survived by his sisters and brother: Sr. Lorraine of Saint-Louis-de-Kent, Sr. Alma of Moncton, Eva (late Elzée Richard) of Saint-Louis-de-Kent, Irène (Delphis Richard) of Saint-Ignace, and Jeannette (Réjean Beaulieu) of Gardner, MA; and Brother Edgar of Montreal, as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife Alida in 2008, by his sister Sr. Ida, by his brothers Antoine and Yvon, and his great-grand-son, Maxisme.

Arthur and Alida first settled at Saint-Olivier where they ran the family farm. Arthur also worked as a lumberjack and in the kitchen of the Villa Maria. The family had to move to Saint-Louis-de-Kent in 1970 when Kouchibouguac National Park was created. After the expropriation, he was often heard saying that he felt "as if he did not have any land under his feet anymore".  He will be greatly missed by his children and grand-children, to whom he devoted his life.

The family will receive condolences at Thompson Funeral Home, 148 Saint-Ignace Road, in Saint-Louis-de-Kent. The funeral will be held at the Saint-Louis-des-Français Church in Saint-Louis-de-Kent, on Wednesday, July 29 at 4 pm.
