ELSIPOGOTOG, NB – It is with
great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Albert
Levy 88, of Elsipogtog at the Stella Maris Hospital in
Ste-Anne-de-Kent on Thursday, October 22,
2020. Born in
Big Cove, he was the son of the late William Levy and late Mary
(Joseph) Levy.
Before
retiring, Albert served as Chief of Elsipogtog First Nation for 26
years. During that time he received the Order of Canada in 1984 and an
Honourary Doctor of Law Degree from Mount Allison University in
1997. Although advocacy was
Albert’s main passion, he was also an avid sportsman,
becoming a pro-Wrestler in the early 1960’s under the name
"Chief Young Eagle". Albert was also well known in the
surrounding communities as a hockey and baseball coach, and a
successful entrepreneur. Outside of his commitment to community
service, Albert lived for his family and spent his down time fishing,
hunting, and camping. Albert would spend hours fly fishing on the
Miramichi River, where he would spend weekends with his wife, the late
Philomene Levi along his family and
friends.
Albert will be sadly missed by his five
daughters, Freda Levi of Elsipogtog, Anne-Marie Levi (Dawn) of
Jardineville, Ruth Levi, Susan Levi Peters (Fabien), Billie-Jo Levi
(Junior) all of Elsipogtog; one son, Mike Levi (Shona) of Indian
Island; thirteen grandchildren, Levi, Jaime, Chadyen, Sharona, Dusty,
Eden, Myka, John-Albert, Sammi-Jo, Reneisha, Seth, Malian, Chayson and
twelve great grandchildren.
He is also survived by one sister, Shirley
Milliea (Walter) of Elsipogtog; three brothers, Hubert Levi, Daniel
Levi (Shirley), Francis Levi (Shirley) all of Elsipogtog;
sister-in-law, Elizabeth Levi of Elsipogtog and many nieces and
nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by
his wife, Philomene (Augustine) Levi; one grandson, Jaxon; step
mother, Philomene Metallic; six sisters, Susan, Sarah, Mary-Jane,
Freda, Christine, Ida and four brothers, Joe Howard, Harry, Henry and
William Jr.
Visitation will begin on Sunday at 2:00 pm
at 148 Main Street, Elsipogtog until time of the service (FACE MASKS
ARE REQUIRED). A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on
Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at 11:00 am at St. Anne’s Roman
Catholic Church in
Elsipogtog.
