ELSIPOGOTOG, NB – It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Albert Levy 88, of Elsipogtog at the Stella Maris Hospital in Ste-Anne-de-Kent on Thursday, October 22, 2020.  Born in Big Cove, he was the son of the late William Levy and late Mary (Joseph) Levy.

Before retiring, Albert served as Chief of Elsipogtog First Nation for 26 years. During that time he received the Order of Canada in 1984 and an Honourary Doctor of Law Degree from Mount Allison University in 1997.  Although advocacy was Albert’s main passion, he was also an avid sportsman, becoming a pro-Wrestler in the early 1960’s under the name "Chief Young Eagle".  Albert was also well known in the surrounding communities as a hockey and baseball coach, and a successful entrepreneur.  Outside of his commitment to community service, Albert lived for his family and spent his down time fishing, hunting, and camping. Albert would spend hours fly fishing on the Miramichi River, where he would spend weekends with his wife, the late Philomene Levi along his family and friends.

Albert will be sadly missed by his five daughters, Freda Levi of Elsipogtog, Anne-Marie Levi (Dawn) of Jardineville, Ruth Levi, Susan Levi Peters (Fabien), Billie-Jo Levi (Junior) all of Elsipogtog; one son, Mike Levi (Shona) of Indian Island; thirteen grandchildren, Levi, Jaime, Chadyen, Sharona, Dusty, Eden, Myka, John-Albert, Sammi-Jo, Reneisha, Seth, Malian, Chayson and twelve great grandchildren.

He is also survived by one sister, Shirley Milliea (Walter) of Elsipogtog; three brothers, Hubert Levi, Daniel Levi (Shirley), Francis Levi (Shirley) all of Elsipogtog; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Levi of Elsipogtog and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Philomene (Augustine) Levi; one grandson, Jaxon; step mother, Philomene Metallic; six sisters, Susan, Sarah, Mary-Jane, Freda, Christine, Ida and four brothers, Joe Howard, Harry, Henry and William Jr.

Visitation will begin on Sunday at 2:00 pm at 148 Main Street, Elsipogtog until time of the service (FACE MASKS ARE REQUIRED).  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at 11:00 am at St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church in Elsipogtog.

Arrangements are in care of Thompson’s Funeral Home in Richibucto (523-4252).
