Jackie Vautour

KOUCHIBOUGUAC, NB – It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of John Jackie L. Vautour, 92, at the Stella-Maris-de-Kent Hospital, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, February 7th, 2021. Born in Fontaine Creek, he was the son of the late Eusebe and Emma (Kelly) Vautour.

Jackie was a loving father and grandfather. Best known for his fight against the expropriation of the Kouchibouguac National Park, he loved hunting, fishing and walking in the woods. He loved his "little wife", as he called her and his nine children very much. His heart was filled with love, courage and strength. A true legend in history.

Jackie leaves to mourn his loving wife of 69 years of marriage, Yvonne (née Cormier); his five daughters, Jeanne O’Brien (Gerald) of St. Charles, Maureen Vautour (late Conrad) of Aldouane, Simonne Vautour (Troy) of Richibucto, Linda Sawyer (Darin) of Bouctouche and Rachelle Scarling (Troy) of St. Charles; three sons, Rocky of Richibucto, Ronnie of Fontaine and Edmond (Anne) of Restigouche; as well as his 23 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

Jackie will also be sadly missed by his three brothers, Walter (Bertha) of Richibucto, Victor (Maria) of Richibucto and Eusebe "Junior" (Linda) of Richibucto; daughter-in-law, Gladys (late Roy) of Elsipogtog; as well as by his many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Jackie was predeceased by his son, Roy; two infant daughters, Maureena and Rebecca; his sister, Ramona Burley; and two brothers, Alex and Norman.
