Hugh Allister Duncan Brown

1953-2023

Hugh Allister Duncan Brown

BROWNS YARD, NB – Hugh Brown 70, of Browns Yard passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Friday, December 15, 2023 at the Stella Maris Hospital in Ste-Anne-de-Kent following a courageous battle with cancer.  Born in the summer of 1953, Hugh was the son of the late Hugh Brown and late Florence (Cormier) Brown.

Hugh was gifted academically, athletically and musically but his passion for music won out and became Hugh’s career.  From his years as a studio guitarist at CBC Radio Canada in Moncton to the State of Yucatan, Mexico, Hugh has shared the stage and his talent with international musicians who understood the musical language of Jazz.  Hugh’s musical legacy is captured on two recordings, the first of which was nominated for ECMA Jazz Recording of the Year in 2004.

Hugh will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Jacqueline (McArdle) Brown of Browns Yard; step-daughter Carissa Bagnell (Brian) of Labrador City, NL and two grandsons, Ewan and Ciaran.

He is also survived by two sisters, Sandra Hart (Frank) of Westville, NS; Sheila Schnuelle of Bennington, Nebraska; one half-sister, Faye Onuluk of Salisbury; nieces Jennifer Hart and Cathy Fraser and nephews, Jesse and Thomas Hart.

His family is grateful to his medical team of doctors, S. Kenney, R. Chinnathuri, L. Francoeur, B. Bakanisi, M. Harb and A. Samad who tried valiantly to keep him with us.

As per Hugh’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or funeral service.  Donations in his memory may be made to Sistema NB or The Humanity Project.

Arrangements are in the professional care of Thompson’s Funeral Home in Richibucto (506-523-4252)
