It is with great sadness that the family of Alyre Richard announces his passing on February 6, 2024, at the Stella-Maris-de-Kent hospital after a short illness. At 90 years old, he had been staying in Richibucto, at Les Résidences du Havre for a few years but was born in Cap-Lumière, across from the sea, where he lived all his life. In fact, the sea was always present in his life as he was, amongst other things, a fisherman, a worker at the docks in Saint John and retiring as a foreman at a lobster factory. In his parish of Richibouctou-Village, Alyre was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, even attaining the 4th degree.
Alyre was the son of late Donat Richard and late Elmire (Caissie). He will be sadly missed by his wife of 64 years, Yvonne (Boucher) and his five children: Anna Goguen (Fernand), Victor (Cindy), Benoît, Andréa Leblanc (Victor) and Marie-Mai Donovan (James). He is also survived by three sisters: Sr. Audette (Sisters of Charity), Dorothée Morin and Diana Nowlan (Jean-Guy Petitpas). Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by one sister and three brothers: Andréa (late Ted), Alphonse (late Hélène), Robert (Edmée) and Gaston (late Florine) as well as three infant sisters. He will also be missed by his seven grandchildren which he adored: Mark (Monika), Serge (Martine), Emmanuel, Luc (Vanja), Danya, Janelle (Tyler) and Gabriella. His grandson, Jonathan (18 years old) was already waiting for him in heaven. Alyre was also great granddad to seven great grandchildren: Adrien, Jakob, Aria, Mila, Emmalynn, Diana and William. His large family also included nephews, nieces and his goddaughter Raymonde.
The Richard family deeply appreciated the kindness of the staff of the special care home and also wishes to highly thank Dr. Landry and his team at the Sainte-Anne-de-Kent emergency department as well as the compassionate employees at the palliative unit at that hospital.
The funeral will be held Saturday, February 10, 2024, at the Saint-Antoine-de-Padoue church in Richibouctou-Village at 11:00. Visitation will commence at 9:00 in the slumber room of this church. Following the ceremony, a luncheon will be served at the Golden Age Club of this parish.
Arrangements are in the professional care of Thompson’s Funeral Home, Richibucto. (506-523-4252)
