Germaine Downey

RICHIBOUCTOU-VILLAGE, NB - Germaine Downey 96, of Richibouctou-Village passed away peacefully at the Dr. Georges-L. Dumont University Hospital Center in Moncton on Saturday, April 13, 2024.  Born in Richibouctou-Village, she was the daughter of the late William Babineau and late Adelina (Babineau) Babineau.

She worked in fisheries in Chamcook, NB, Campbell Soup Company in Toronto, ON and plastics industries in Leominster, Massachusetts before retiring at the age of 60, returning to her birthplace in the village.  Germaine enjoyed gardening, cooking, music and dancing.

Germaine will be sadly missed by her two sons, William Downey (Diane) of Richibouctou-Village, Ronald "Ronnie" Downey (Celeste) of Oregon; three granddaughters, Nicole, Carol, Sarah; two great granddaughters, Angelina, Milanya; three sisters-in-law, Yvonne Babineau of Richibouctou-Village and Clara Babineau of St. Louis and Frances Downey Of Toronto.

The last surviving member of her immediate family, she was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Norman Downey; four sisters, Marie, Rosie, Rita, Sophie; three brothers, Albert, Emile, André; five half brothers, Antoine, Gerard, Jean-Baptiste, Alyre and Jérome as well as one granddaughter, Lauren. 

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 22, 2024 beginning at 9:00 am until time of the funeral at the St. Antoine de Padoue Roman Catholic Church Slumber Room.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, April 22, 2024 at 11:00 am, St. Antoine de Padoue Roman Catholic Church in Richibouctou-Village.
