Shirley Biggs

1941-2024

Shirley Biggs

MCKEES MILLS, NB – It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Shirley Mary Laura Biggs (nee Cail), age 83, at the Stella Maris Hospital in Ste. Anne-de-Kent on Friday, December 20, 2024, after a brief battle with cancer.  Born in Pine Ridge, NB, on September 4, 1941, Shirley was the daughter of the late Sanford Cail and the late Joan (Ells) Cail.

Grannie Shirley, as she was affectionally known by all, was a pillar in her community.  Grannie was a hard worker, and even in retirement, stayed busy, often remarking that she "didn’t know how she ever found the time to work, with all her little jobs".  She could be found knitting wool socks and mitts; baking molasses cookies and raisin squares; or making batches and batches of mustard pickles.  One of her "little jobs" in the community was tending a garden with Wayne and Janice, often heard saying "I was already in there before you fellas were even out of bed" and that is how Grannie rolled.  When Grannie wasn’t doing little jobs for her community, she was making numerous trips to PEI to visit her great grandchildren and to "get that one’s laundry done over there".  Everyone was invited in for a cup of tea or for a beer or two. She cherished her family, near and far, and had a standing Friday evening drink with her great nephew, Trevor Hudson.

Shirley leaves to mourn her beloved children: Darlene Hickey (Bruce) of Upper Rexton, Dale Biggs (Licia) of Moncton, and Garth Biggs (Carol) of McKees Mills; her brothers: Fred Cail (Judy) of Moncton, and Bruce Cail (Phyllis) of Salisbury; her grandchildren: Patty Jo, Bobby Jo, Sammy Jo, Michael; Kandice, Erika; Jackie, Shelley; her great grandchildren: Hayden, Henry, Alex; Finno; Clay, Gracie; Nora, Shay, Elizabeth, Ray; Ella-Bea, Zayden; Anders; Ali, Aidan; Weslee, Nora; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband, the late Kenneth Biggs.

In keeping with Shirley’s wishes, there will be no visitation of funeral service. A graveside service will be held later in the spring of 2025 at Zion United Church in McKees Mills, NB.  Date to be announced.

In memory of Shirley, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Zion United Church Woodlawn Cemetery fund, or a charity of choice.

Arrangements are in the professional care of Thompson Funeral Home, Richibucto (506-523-4252).
