SAINT-LOUIS-DE-KENT, NB – At the Villa Maria in
Saint-Louis-de-Kent, on April 25, 2026, Ernest J. Maillet passed away
peacefully, surrounded by his family, at the age of 94. He was
formerly of Richibucto. Born in Saint-Ignace, he was the son of the
late Joseph Laurent Maillet and Lucie (Chevarie)
Maillet.
Ernest and his brother Antoine were orphaned at a very young
age and were raised by the late Sylvestre Richard and the late Marie
(Blanchard) Richard of Saint-Ignace. Ernest considered them his
grandparents.
Ernest worked most of his life at the Seagram distillery in
Richibucto until his reitrement.
He is survived by five children : Paul Maillet
(Marvi DeGuzman) of Edmonton, Bernard Maillet (Pauline) of Dieppe,
Antoine Maillet (Diana) of Saint-Charles, Lucie Maillet
(Léandre Frigault) of Saint-Louis, and Dianne Maillet
(Pierre Pitre) of McKees Mills; ten grandchildren : Monique,
Mathieu, Antonio, Justin, Nancy, Gaëtan, Joëlle,
Samuel, Julie, and Michael; and seven
great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by a brother-in-law, René
(Jeanne) Guimond of Rogersville, as well as several nieces and
nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved wife,
Alda (Guimond) Maillet (2019), his brother Antoine (at the age of 15),
his little sister Catherine (who passed at birth), as well as his
brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Visitation will take place at Thompson’s Funeral
Home in Richibucto on Thursday, April 30, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM, and on
Friday, May 1 from 9:00 AM until departure for the service. A funeral
mass will be held on Friday, May 1, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the St. Louis
de Gonzague Roman Catholic Church in Richibucto. Donations in memory
of Ernest may be made to the St. Louis de Gonzague Roman Catholic
Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
