RICHIBOUCTOU-VILLAGE, NB – It is with heavy hearts that the family of Normand Babineau, "Normand-A-Gonzague", 81, of Richibouctou-Village, announce his passing on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre. Born in Richibouctou-Village, he was the son of the late Edmond Babineau and the late Lea (Caissie) Babineau.

Normand dedicated four years to the Royal Canadian Army, serving as a peacekeeper in Germany. He spent many years working as a cement truck driver before later finding great enjoyment working in a cranberry field during the final years of his career. In his younger years, Normand competed in many arm wrestling competitions, earning numerous victories and winning his final competition in 1999 at the age of 55.

In his later years, he taught himself to play the guitar, a hobby that brought him much happiness. He loved spending time in his garden, growing vegetables, and taking leisurely drives around Cap-Lumière. Normand was a strong, quiet man whose actions spoke louder than words. His calm presence, gentle nature, and unwavering strength touched the lives of many. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who loved him.

Normand leaves to mourn his beloved wife of 55 years, Ida Babineau of Richibouctou-Village; his daughter, Rachelle Guimond (Daniel) of Aldouane; his sons, Maurice Babineau (Sarah), Gilles Babineau (Nadia), both of Richibouctou-Village; his sister, Maria Comeau (late Roger) of Moncton; nine beloved grandchildren, Samantha, Rémi, Michelle, Shania, Zachary, Cory, Pierre, Robert and Isabelle; three great-grandchildren, Maisie, Eva and Misty-May; as well as his extended family and friends.

Along with his parents, Normand was predeceased by his sisters, Julia and Rosella; his brothers, Bertin, Vincent, Delphis, Josephat, Robert, and Zoël; and his adopted parents, Gonzague and Vianna Richard.

Visitation will take place on Sunday, June 21, from 7:00 – 9:00 PM, and continue on Monday, June 22, from 12:00 PM until time of service, at the St. Antoine-de-Padoue Slumber Room in Richibouctou-Village.
